Happy Snow Day!

We never know what weather North Texas brings us in January and February. While many of us are hoping for a lot of snow, that may also mean we will most likely be at home the next few days. Please see these ideas to do with your family. You can save these ideas for warmer weather, too!

  1. Snow volcanoes: Put baking soda and food coloring in a cup and place in the snow. Add some vinegar to activate and watch it overflow!

  2. Make a batch of slime. Here is a recipe: SLIME

  3. Try origami. ORIGAMI PAPER AND INSTRUCTIONS

  4. Create a scavenger hunt. Give the kids the first clue, which will lead them to the next clue and so on. Have some sort of "treasure" for them to find at the end, or a treat such as a coupon for an hot chocolate, which they can cash in that evening.

  5. Ask your kids to draw a self portrait or portrait of their family, then compare everyone’s artwork.

  6. Sit down together and write handwritten letters to grandparents or family members you don’t see often.

  7. Listen to a podcast. Dr. Sarah made a list here: PODCASTS

  8. Try a new recipe. We love these easy recipes for kids and adults. You can easily make many of them allergen-free. RECIPES

  9. Make your own ice cream! Here is a classic recipe and allergen-free recipe: CLASSIC or ALLERGEN-FREE.

  10. Blow up a bunch of balloons and play games with them.

  11. Find some movement on our YouTube channel!

  12. Get some stationary and write or color cards for friends and family. It is always wonderful to get some good old-fashioned mail!

I also acknowledge that as parents, we may feel tired and overwhelmed from the recent winter break from school. It is okay to put a show on, take time to breathe, drink water, and take a moment for yourself. You've got this!
